About us

Providing Quality Test Equipment Worldwide

Buckleys provides quality equipment for checking the integrity of membranes, coatings and linings. We also manufacture a range of products for monitoring corrosion levels on pipes and structures, both on land and underwater.

Our History

Buckleys (UVRAL) Ltd. was formed in 1926 by the Buckley brothers of Putney, London, to sell ultra violet ray arc lamps (hence the name UVRAL), used in early photographic production.

The Hoveman family took over Buckleys in 1942 and the company moved from its base in Riverside, Putney to Hythe (in the south east of England) in 1973. In June 2010 the company relocated to Shearway Business Park in Folkestone. John ’s son, Paul, has been Managing Director since 1986.

Since 1962, Buckleys has specialised in the manufacture of test and inspection equipment. Continuous investment in research and development has resulted in the comprehensive range of high / low voltage equipment available today. This includes DC Holiday Detectors and Cable Testers, AC Spark Testers, Wet Sponge Testers and a range of sub-sea inspection equipment.

Buckleys has also diversified into fields such as ozone production, anti corrosion systems, medical equipment and a wide range of embedded microprocessors based systems. The company is ISO 9001 accredited and its products are CE approved where appropriate. Buckleys provides a one year “back to base” warranty on all products.

Renowned for its outstanding product range and proven record of top class customer care, Buckleys offers customers a prompt, reliable service, worldwide.

Paul Hoveman – Managing Director

Customer care is paramount to Paul, and is greatly encouraged through the Buckley’s team.
Having “clocked” up over 33 years at Buckleys, the move to new premises in nearby Folkestone has given Paul new focus with all aspects of the company. His younger son Craig has now joined the team, with new members of staff adding to compliment the future growth of Buckleys.

Outside work, Paul’s hobby has been “Coastal Rowing” and he is also involved with umpiring. He says “I still enjoy rowing, although the aches and pains seem to last longer than they used to!” Umpiring has given me the opportunity to put something back into the sport which I have enjoyed over many years.
With the introduction of new products I look forward to moving the company forward to a new dimension, whilst continuing our customer care at all times.

Craig Hoveman – Sales Executive

(Pauls Younger Son)

Craig has recently joined Buckley’s after training to be an electrician. Since joining the company in April 2010 Craig has managed Buckley’s move to their new premises in Folkestone. He hopes the new building will make the company more efficient, in this modern style building.

Craig hopes to put new life into the business, to maintain its customer service and push the company into making new products in the future. He will start by meeting clients and making new ones, experiencing the field with his father.

Charity work is one of Craig’s interests, rowing the English channel for cancer, bike riding 420 miles from lands end to Folkestone for charity and other events.

Craig’s main sport is Coastal Rowing and was part of a crew winning at the South Coast Championships in 2003, he also likes running, biking and helping his community.

‘I hope I can have as much success in business as my father has had over the years at Buckley’s’
